Building a scalable and customizable SaaS platform for managing professional communities

Advocu is a SaaS platform that brings together professional communities by offering them a smooth onboarding process and engaging social features. Organizations using their own implementations of the platform can create a closed social network within their program or company where members can share their professional activities and where program managers can onboard new applicants and track engagement of current members.

Process & Story

Problem

Advocu was developed with scalability and smooth implementation of every new instance in mind. The key requirement was the modular design of both the frontend and backend parts with shared modules. Each implementation has APIs which are ready for integration with external platforms and tools for greater flexibility of the offered product.

Solution

We built the Advocu recruitment module for maximum adaptability. Each new program can be easily added to the platform by setting up a customized version of the onboarding flow. Users can add their own steps, own forms, own set of rules, and own copy. Each client can also count on our full support in designing the process and implementing program-specific functionalities to support their workflow. We worked in an Agile way throughout the implementation phase to understand and discover our client’s most pressing needs.

Challenges

Flexibility
The product provides a set of ready modules enabling a high level of customization for the client. This flexibility allows adaptation to a new client’s processes and nomenclature. Each client uses a discrete environment to ensure high-level data separation.

GDPR compliance
Under the GDPR, data controllers have new obligations. When building Advocu, we needed to ensure and demonstrate compliance with all the data protection principles and requirements. Ensuring compliance with the GDPR involved preparing the anonymization process for the whole database.

Ready-made modules
Advocu offers flexibility and a high level of customization but some clients may not want to build everything from the ground up. To make it attractive to different stakeholders, we added some generic, easily-scalable modules which allow clients to implement additional programs in the blink of an eye, such as a statistical module or user management module.
